The Early Childhood Approach is for children younger than 7 with a disability or a developmental delay, and their families. The Early Childhood Approach supports families to help children develop the skills they need to take part in daily activities.

In Tasmania, the Early Childhood Intervention Service (ECIS) works with  families to help them access NDIS supports.

Children with disability may need specific equipment to help them access and take part in education. This may include things like:

• wheelchairs
• ramps
• hoists
• commodes
• specialist seating.

The Department of Education provides personal care in schools as part of the Tasmanian Government’s contribution to the NDIS.

School Leavers Employment Supports (SLES) are available for students completing year 12, over the school leaving age. They are tailored for each participant and their goals. They consider what supports are needed to either enter employment or further training opportunities. 

The NDIS has created a teacher toolkit to assist students and their families consider post-year 12 options and supports.
