NAIDOC

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for us to join with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to celebrate their history, culture and achievements.

  • While NAIDOC celebrations focus on one week, there are many ways to introduce the cross-curriculum priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures in your classroom throughout the year. Please contact us at aboriginal.education@decyp.tas.gov.au to find out how we can support you.
  • Visit the NAIDOC web site for more information.

NAIDOC Week 2-9 July 2023

We celebrate NAIDOC Week across Australia in the first week of July. Recognising the history, culture, and
achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

We encourage you to teach, learn and celebrate all year round. Here are a few suggestions to get you
started.

This year’s theme For Our Elders means

  • How can we show respect to Elders?
  • Why are you grateful for the wisdom of Elders?
  • What can you as a school do for your local Tasmanian Aboriginal Community?

  • We Love Country has Nanna showing and telling us about Country. Read the story and then ask – Is Nanna an Elder?
