Introduction to the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) as the key guiding document used to inform educator practice in Australia

Belonging, Being and Becoming – The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF) is used in early childhood services and settings across Australia to provide quality teaching and learning to all children.  In Tasmania, the EYLF informs the work of all educators working with children from birth to year 2.

The EYLF recognises  that early childhood is a critical time in children’s learning and development.  The EYLF provides a set of principles, practices and outcomes as a guide for educators.

 The EYLF has five learning outcomes:

• Children have a strong sense of identity
• Children are connected with and contribute to their world
• Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
• Children are confident and involved learners
• Children are effective communicators.

Educators use the principles, practices and outcomes to  plan for  children’s ongoing development and learning. When using the EYLF educators recognise the importance of communication, play-based learning and working together with families to provide quality teaching and learning for all children.
