AEDC background information
Every school with children in their first year of full-time school has a vital role to play in helping our nation collect the information it needs to support our children and their families as we recover from the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
What is the AEDC?
The Australian Early Development Census measures child development across five domains physical health and wellbeing, social competence, emotional maturity, language and cognitive skills (school-based), communication skills and general knowledge.
Quality data and collection
High quality information in achieved when teachers and Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Cultural consultants collaborate to inform data collected through the AEDC. It is critical that teachers and cultural consultants complete training prior to collection.
Data Collection Key dates for 2021
Before data collection
- 19th March school leader packs and teacher packs will be delivered.
A schools Principal will nominate an AEDC School Coordinator
AEDC School Coordinator
Assigning an AEDC School Coordinator (e.g. Principal, Deputy Principal or Early Childhood Leader) will support the coordination and smooth running of the AEDC. Further information regarding the AEDC collection will be provided through the school Leader and Teacher Pack
- 19th march to 7th May data collection system open for school activation
School Activation
It is important that your school is activated by the end of week 3 Term 2 so that your teachers have enough time to complete the census.
- 19th April Data collection system opens for teacher registration and training.
- 26th April data collection system opens for class list creation.
Data Collection
- 3rd May Data collection commences.
- 2nd July Data collection closes.
After data collection
- 24th September deadline for teacher relief invoice submission
Funding schools are provided with funding for teacher release to enable teachers to complete the AEDC.
