The Abuse in State Care Support Service has been established by the State Government to provide support to people who experienced abuse in State care when they were children. The Service aims to assist people to overcome the impacts of the abuse and improve their life circumstances.
The Government has agreed to make up to $2,500 available to pay for goods and services related (but not limited) to; education, employment, counselling, personal development, family connection, medical and dental services.
The Service is available for those people who:
- Are over 18 years of age,
- Were placed in State Care in an institution or home established for the care of children in Tasmania,
- Experienced abuse while in State Care,
- Did not previously successfully apply to the Child Abuse Review Program.

Abuse In Care Review Program
The Abuse in State Care Support Service follows the Claims of Abuse in State Care Program, which was first established in 2003 to address the past failures of our out of home care system. The program operated over four separate rounds up until 2013 when the fourth and final round was completed
The final report of the round 4 program was released in November 2014 to publicly acknowledge the work of the program and in particular those courageous individuals who willingly came forward to share their stories and expose the most tragic and painful parts of their lives.
